Water. Warmth.
A softer light.

The small rituals that make us feel at home, and the ideas I would love to develop with collaborators who share that curiosity.

A future collaboration with AXOR

Thinking about water,
throughout the home.

My interest in wellbeing starts with everyday life: the water we drink, the shower that begins our morning and the bath we look forward to at the end of the day. I would love to explore a collaboration with AXOR that brings those experiences into one thoughtful conversation.

We already have a long-standing connection with AXOR. The ambition here is to take that conversation further: how beautifully designed fittings and carefully specified water treatment might work together in a particular home.

For me, the starting point would be the home’s water supply, plumbing and each household’s needs. Mains drinking water in England and Wales is regulated and generally does not need extra treatment for health protection. Where there is a specific concern, such as older lead pipework, it deserves a specific assessment.

A drinking-water filter serves its connected outlet. It does not automatically treat the water reaching a bath or shower. With systems such as Quooker or BLANCO, we would check the exact model, cartridge and water path; with shower or whole-house filtration, the verified reduction claims, flow and maintenance requirements.

This is a design ambition to explore with AXOR, not an announced joint product. AXOR’s Signature service offers a route to discuss project-specific development.

The bedroom and bathroom as a suite

A little of the spa.
A lot of everyday pleasure.

I keep coming back to three small ideas. Beautifully integrated, they could make the beginning and end of the day feel more considered.

01 / WARMTH

A warm towel,
just when you want it.

A discreet, purpose-designed warmer for small towels and face cloths, built into residential cabinetry. Easy to reach, simple to clean and controlled for comfortable use, with provision for eye masks designed for gentle warming according to their makers’ guidance.

02 / COOL STORAGE

A miniature
cool drawer.

The neat integration of a kitchen cooling drawer, reimagined at a much smaller scale for suitable skincare, cosmetics and eye masks. Storage temperatures would follow each product’s instructions; refrigeration is not right for everything.

03 / DRINKING WATER

A drink within
easy reach.

A compact filtered chilled-water and hot-water station within the bedroom suite. An idea to develop around safe controls, a dedicated potable supply and the quiet, uncluttered feel of the room.

These are concepts for future development with appropriate manufacturers. The appeal is the ritual and the integration: a place for everything, with temperature, maintenance and everyday usability considered from the beginning.

A future collaboration with Bisazza

A signature,
piece by piece.

I would love to develop a mosaic with Bisazza: something recognisably personal, shaped by colour, pattern and the way a surface feels within a room.

Bisazza’s glass mosaics and history of designer collaborations make it a particularly exciting possibility. Its Design Studio can translate a drawing or photograph into mosaic, opening up a conversation about a truly individual composition.

For me, the starting point would be the atmosphere we want to create. A quiet rhythm, a soft palette, or a detail that reveals itself as you move closer.

Another material I keep returning to

That beautiful,
gentle glow.

In our showroom kitchen setting, the backlit onyx is often the detail visitors linger over. Visitors describe a sense of calm, and I feel it too. The light is subtle, and the natural pattern gives you something beautiful to settle your eyes on.

I would love to explore that feeling on a larger scale: a generous backlit panel within a bathroom or bedroom suite, considered alongside the rest of the room’s lighting.

This is a related material idea, separate from the Bisazza mosaic ambition. What interests me is the experience of light, colour and natural pattern. The sense of calm is a personal response to the space; I would not describe onyx as having proven healing properties.

Ideas waiting for the right home

What would make
your day feel different?

A more thoughtful shower, a small spa ritual or a quietly luminous surface. I would love to explore how the things you enjoy could shape a room that feels entirely yours.

Design credits & the research behind these ideas

The AXOR photograph is from Lisa’s archive. The mosaic image shows an existing Bisazza design, not a proposed or completed Lisa Melvin collaboration. The onyx photograph is from our Onyx project, rather than the showroom setting described in the story.

Water treatment should be selected for a defined purpose. NSF/ANSI 177 concerns free chlorine reduction by shower filters; it does not establish removal of every contaminant. WHO’s review identifies gaps in the evidence about microplastics and health. Neither point supports a claim that every home needs shower filtration. Lead concerns are primarily associated with older pipework and require appropriate assessment.
